Yesterday at Thracian Cliffs in Bulgaria, Graeme McDowell defeated Thongchai Jaidee 2&1 to take home the 48th Volvo World Match Play Championship. McDowell, playing from behind most of the day, took back control when he hit his approach within six feet at the 15th hole and went on to make his third birdie of the round, putting him two up with three holes to play.
After his victory, he said “We have been talking all week about how prestigious this event is. I can’t say how excited I am to win it and add my name to that list of legends.” Past winners of this event include Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player, Seve Ballesteros, Nick Faldo, and many more.
G-Mac’s victory at Thracian Cliffs marked his second win in his last three starts, having also won last month at the RBC Heritage in Hilton Head, SC. The win elevated him to Number Seven in this week’s Official World Golf Rankings, as well as Number One in the European Tour’s “Race to Dubai”, having earned €1,029,186 in only four events this year.
This week, Graeme will travel to the BMW PGA Championship in Surrey, England to compete against the top golfers in all of Europe, including 20 players ranking in the World’s Top 50. Graeme currently games the Classic driver, 588 TT iron, and three 588 wedges (48, 52 degree Forged, 58 degree RTX).
