Hey there, readers. I just wanted to get on here and share some really exciting news with you all… Will Wilcox has been named the Hooter’s Tour Rookie Of The Year! This marks the fourth time in the last five years that a Cleveland Golf staffer has been named ROY on the Hooter’s Tour! Here is what Wilcox had to say…
When did you start playing golf?
I picked up the game at about 7, and started playing competitively by the time I was 9.
What really got you into the game?
Well, my mom was a PGA Professional and she played four years at Auburn. So when I was little we used to go out and play together and I just went with it from there.
You were playing on two tours this year, was that tough for you to balance?
Not really, but it also was never my plan to play on two tours this year. I was playing the Hooter’s Tour, and planned to play that tour all year. Then I just went to try out in Edmonton and I won the Monday qualifier and then I won the tournament. That got me an exemption into next week and it just sort of went from there.
You were rookie of the year on the Hooter’s Tour, but you only played in 11 tournaments, how do you explain that?
Well, I just got off to a really good start at the beginning of the year. I was coming off an injury so I was going through rehab and doing training, that really helped to sharpen my game.
So, what does the future look like for you right now?
Just working hard, you know. Obviously I am trying to get to the “big show”. All I can do is work hard, and hope that will pay off.
